My Experience

I’ve been in private practice since 2015, originally as a BACP-accredited humanistic and existential counsellor. My journey began in 2011 with training rooted in person-centred and existential traditions, drawing inspiration from the likes of Carl Rogers and Irvin Yalom. These early influences shaped my commitment to meeting clients with authenticity, warmth, and respect for their inner wisdom.

In 2022, I became a UKCP-accredited Core Process Psychotherapist, completing a Master’s training at the Karuna Institute — a centre known for its pioneering integration of Buddhist psychology and Western depth psychotherapy. This mindfulness-based approach, grounded in presence and relational awareness, now forms the heart of my work.

As part of this training—and as an ongoing part of my personal and professional life—I maintain a regular contemplative and meditative practice. This supports my capacity to be present, to listen deeply, and to attune to the subtle layers of a client’s unfolding process.

These two strands — humanistic counselling and Core Process Psychotherapy — provide the foundation of my integrative practice. My previous career in further and higher education, spanning more than 20 years, continues to inform my work with a grounded, collaborative sensibility and an attunement to developmental processes and transitions.

I’ve continued to deepen my practice through ongoing study and specialist training in:

  • Trauma-informed therapy and nervous system regulation, influenced by the work of Babette Rothschild and Stephen Porges
  • Attachment theory and early relational dynamics, exploring how early experiences shape our capacity for connection and safety
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) and parts work, supporting clients to meet protective and wounded parts with compassion
  • Jungian shadow work, helping integrate split-off aspects of self and move toward greater wholeness
  • Contemplative inquiry, honouring the value of presence, not-knowing, and lived experience as a path to insight

I have also undertaken training in gender diversity and work affirmatively with people exploring identity, sexuality, and belonging. I understand the importance of a space where all parts of your identity are welcome and can be met with care and respect.
